Welcome to Plei
This training is a guided overview of the most important policies in the Plei Company Handbook. It does not replace the handbook — always refer to the full document for complete details. Let's start with who we are.
More Than an App — It's a Movement
Plei is a global platform designed to make playing soccer more accessible, social, and connected. We are a ~50-person startup headquartered in Florida, with a globally distributed team across Latin America and beyond.
We leverage technology to enable players, organizers, and partners to come together through the game — anytime, anywhere. Our platform exists to remove barriers to play and create opportunities for meaningful interaction both on and off the pitch.
Our Mission: To connect the world through the beautiful game of soccer, using technology to make community and play accessible to everyone, everywhere.
What We Stand For
These are not just words on a wall — they are how we make decisions, how we treat each other, and how we show up every day.
People First. Always.
We lead with empathy, inclusion, and joy — on and off the pitch. We build for the humans who power our ecosystem.
Building the World's Soccer Marketplace
This isn't an app — it's a movement. Every decision should unlock value across the player-organizer-partner triangle.
Craft with Purpose. Operate with Discipline.
Our work must be clean, sharp, and useful. Every decision connects back to solving a real user need or strategic business goal.
Innovation at Our Core
We embrace AI and emerging tools as fundamental forces. We think in systems, not features — always asking what unlocks the most value next.
Bias Toward Action, Built to Learn
We ship to learn. We move fast, stay curious, and aren't afraid of being wrong. Mistakes are feedback. Success is iterating.
Respect & Transparency Are Non-Negotiable
We communicate honestly — even when it's hard. We listen, ask why, and assume good intent. Every team member is treated with respect.
Team of Owners
We hold each other accountable, strive for excellence, and support one another. This is a place for growth, ownership, and performance.
Global Talent, Local Impact
We hire across borders, cultures, and experiences. Soccer is a global game, and we are no different. What unites us is ambition and resilience.
Honesty & Integrity in Everything We Do
Plei conducts business honestly and ethically wherever we operate. Every employee and contractor is expected to uphold high standards of personal and professional integrity as a representation of our business practices at all times.
We expect that no one will knowingly misrepresent the Company, speak on its behalf without authorization, or use confidential information for personal gain. Violations of the Ethics Code can result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
Your First 60 Days
The first 60 days of your employment is considered an introductory period. During this time, you will become familiar with Plei and your responsibilities, and the Company will evaluate your performance and fit. Completing this period does not guarantee continued employment.
What is Plei's mission?
Where We Are
Plei operates as a primarily remote, distributed team — but we also have a physical headquarters. This module covers everything you need to know about our office location, contact information, and how we use our workspace.
Coral Gables, Florida
Coral Gables, FL 33134
Miami, FL 33283
Using the HQ Workspace
The HQ serves as a shared workspace for team members who choose to — or are required to — work on-site. Access may require prior registration, including providing vehicle information for garage entry. Office credentials (e.g., key cards) are issued as needed and must be used responsibly — never share your credentials.
All team members attending the office must sign the Tenant Lounge Waiver, regardless of how frequently they come in. Communicate your weekly in-office schedule to Human Resources.
Shared Space, Shared Responsibility
- Workstations, meeting rooms, and common areas must be used collaboratively and kept available for others
- Reserve meeting spaces through designated internal tools when applicable
- Keep your workspace clean and organized; do not leave personal belongings in common areas
- No smoking or vaping on company premises at any time
- No unauthorized guests or vendors without prior approval
- Any damage caused by misuse or negligence may result in financial responsibility
How Attendance Is Recorded
For team members with an assigned in-office schedule, attendance is tracked through building access systems (keycard entry). Any changes to your in-office schedule must be communicated in advance to your manager and HR at HR@plei.com. If a scheduled in-office day is missed and cannot be rescheduled within the same week, you must notify both your manager and HR with the reason.
Our Distributed Team
Plei has team members across Latin America and beyond. As a distributed team, we prioritize clear documentation, async communication, and intentional collaboration. Remote team members are expected to remain responsive, engaged, and available during working hours. Any disruption to availability must be communicated promptly to your manager and HR.

How We Work Together
Plei is a high-performance, distributed team built around ownership and accountability. This module covers the behaviors, communication norms, and standards of conduct that define how we operate every day.
Ownership, Accountability, Excellence
At Plei, we are a team of owners. This means we take responsibility for our outcomes, communicate proactively, and hold each other to high standards — with respect at the core. The values we covered in Module 1 aren't abstract ideals; they define how we behave on a daily basis.
We expect every team member to: deliver high-quality work aligned with team goals, manage time effectively and meet deadlines, raise challenges early rather than letting them fester, and contribute actively to solutions — not just problems.
Slack is Our Primary Tool
Plei relies on Slack for day-to-day communication. Keep messages clear and professional, use the right channels, and use threads for ongoing discussions. Manage notifications, keep your status up to date, and avoid non-urgent communication outside working hours.
Company-wide updates & operational comms
Recognize teammates' contributions
Milestones, birthdays, anniversaries
Product updates and developments
Prioritize async communication to maintain flexibility across time zones. Use meetings for decisions and alignment — not status updates.
Availability & Reliability
All team members must be available during scheduled hours and remain responsive. If you'll be late or absent, notify your manager at least 30 minutes before your start time when possible, and also inform HR at HR@plei.com.
Job Abandonment: Failing to report to work or provide notice for 3 consecutive workdays may be treated as a voluntary resignation.
Standard Schedule
The standard workweek is Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–6:00 PM EST. Core collaboration hours — when everyone should be available — are 10:00 AM–2:00 PM EST. Plei prioritizes outcomes over clock-watching, but availability during core hours is non-negotiable for team alignment.
The Magic team follows a shift-based schedule for 24/7 coverage — different hours may apply.
Behaviors That Are Never Acceptable
Plei expects a respectful, high-performing, and inclusive environment. The following behaviors can result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination:
- Falsifying time records or expense reports
- Harassment, fighting, or intimidation of colleagues, vendors, or customers
- Disclosing confidential company information without authorization
- Possessing weapons on company property without authorization
- Unauthorized use of company property or systems
- Being under the influence of drugs or alcohol at work
- Inaccurate reporting of hours worked
- Refusal to follow reasonable directions from management
- Lending keys or keycards to unauthorized persons
Which of the following best describes what it means to be a "Team of Owners" at Plei?
Compensation & Finances
Understanding when and how you're paid, how to handle business expenses, and how to use company financial tools responsibly is essential for all team members.
When You Get Paid
Plei uses a semimonthly pay schedule (Except for domestic contractors, who are on a monthly pay schedule.)
| Employee Type | Pay Dates |
|---|---|
| U.S. Employees | 1st and 16th of each month |
| International Contractors | 7th and 22nd of each month |
If a pay date falls on a weekend or holiday, you'll be paid on the preceding Friday or workday. Review each paycheck and report any discrepancies to your manager or HR immediately.
Using Company Funds Responsibly
All business expenses must be necessary, approved in advance, and submitted through Ramp (the company expense platform) with receipts and a description of the business purpose. Reimbursements are processed on the 1st and 16th of each month.
✅ Reimbursable
- Flights, trains, approved mileage
- Hotel accommodations
- Meals up to $75/day (prorated)
- Ground transport (rideshare, taxi)
- Conference registration fees
❌ Not Reimbursable
- Alcohol (unless pre-approved)
- Personal items or gifts
- Flight/hotel upgrades
- Fines or penalties
- Personal entertainment
The Default for All Business Purchases
All business purchases must use a Company-issued Ramp card. Personal cards require prior written approval from Finance and are the exception, not the rule. Each Ramp transaction must include a receipt and a memo explaining the business purpose. Misuse of a Ramp card can result in termination.
Traveling for Work
- All travel must be pre-approved by your manager
- Book economy class flights; refundable where feasible
- Hotel stays should align with assigned nightly budgets
- Rental cars require prior approval
- Meals: typically up to $75–$100/day (prorated)
For travel, the Company may issue a Ramp card configured for that trip with specific spending limits and date ranges. Request it in advance with purpose, dates, and estimated budget.
Parking at HQ
Employees who regularly work from the Miami office (more than 4x/month or 2+ days/week) may be eligible for a monthly parking benefit. You must complete a parking waiver and maintain accurate vehicle info. If you don't qualify for full coverage, reimbursement of up to $100/month may apply.

PTO, Holidays & Benefits
Your employment classification determines which benefits apply to you. This module covers how employees are classified, what at-will employment means, and the full scope of time off and insurance benefits available.
Who Is a W-2 Employee?
Plei classifies team members based on their employment status and applicable legal requirements. This classification determines your compensation structure, benefits eligibility, and applicable labor laws.
W-2 Employees (U.S.-Based)
Individuals directly employed by Plei in the United States. Taxes are withheld by the Company. Eligible for Company-sponsored benefits (health insurance, PTO, parental leave, disability) in accordance with Company policy.
Contractors (U.S. 1099 & International)
Provide services under a contractual agreement. Compensated based on agreed terms. Not eligible for employee benefits unless explicitly stated in their agreement. Responsible for their own taxes and compliance.
Full-Time vs. Part-Time
Full-time: 30+ hours/week — eligible for full benefits. Part-time: fewer than 30 hours/week — limited or no benefits eligibility. Part-time employees do not accrue PTO and are not eligible for company-sponsored insurance.
Unsure of your classification? Contact HR at HR@plei.com. Your classification is communicated at hire and whenever it changes.
What "At-Will" Means
Employment at Plei is at-will. This means that either you or the Company may end the employment relationship at any time — with or without cause, and with or without advance notice — to the extent permitted by applicable law.
Nothing in this handbook, or in any conversation with a manager or HR representative, creates a contract of employment or a guarantee of continued employment. Only the CEO has authority to make binding written promises about job security, and any such promise must be in writing and signed.
At-will employment does not change your rights under applicable law. It applies to all W-2 employees where permitted by state law.
25 Days Per Year
Full-time employees and international contractors receive 25 paid days of PTO per year, available after completing 60 days of continuous employment. PTO is a fixed annual amount — it does not accrue. Unused PTO does not carry over and is forfeited at year-end or upon separation.
Notice Requirements
| Type of Leave | Notice Required |
|---|---|
| Single day | At least 3 business days |
| 2–3 days consecutive | At least 5 business days |
| 4+ days | 2–4 weeks depending on role |
All PTO must be submitted and approved in Rippling. Always coordinate coverage for your team before going on leave.
8 Paid Holidays Per Year
International team members observe their country's Independence Day and International Labour Day (May 1) in place of U.S. equivalents. Certain roles (e.g., Customer Success, Game Operations) that work on holidays receive overtime pay.
Benefits for Full-Time W-2 Employees
The benefits described below — including Parental Leave, Health Insurance, Dental, Vision, and Short-Term Disability — apply exclusively to full-time W-2 employees unless otherwise specified. Contractors and part-time employees are generally not eligible unless their individual agreement states otherwise.
Paid Leave for New Parents — Full-Time W-2 Employees
Full-time W-2 employees with 12 months of continuous service are eligible for paid parental leave after birth, adoption, or foster placement of a child under one year:
Birthing Parents
Up to 9 weeks of paid parental leave
Non-Birthing Parents

Give at least 120 days' advance notice when possible. STD benefits run concurrently with parental leave for eligible U.S. employees.

Systems, Brand & Information Security
Protecting company data and representing the Plei brand responsibly are non-negotiable. This module covers how to use company tools properly, safeguard confidential information, and uphold our brand standards.
Business Use Only
All Plei IT resources — laptops, Slack, email, software, and other platforms — are for business purposes only. The Company reserves the right to monitor, intercept, and review all data transmitted on its systems. You have no expectation of privacy on company systems, even with password protection.
Use strong passwords and enable multi-factor authentication where required. Report any suspected security incidents to admin@plei.com immediately.
Approved Tools Only
All software must be purchased through the Operations team. Never illegally duplicate licensed software. Do not install unapproved applications or incorporate intellectual property from a former employer. The Director of Operations enforces these guidelines.
Protect What's Private
As a condition of employment or engagement, you must protect all of Plei's confidential and proprietary information — including financial data, business strategies, product roadmaps, customer lists, patents, and trademarks. This information should only be accessed on a need-to-know basis and never used for personal benefit.
All employees and contractors are required to sign a Confidentiality & Restrictive Covenant Agreement. Contact HR@plei.com if you need a copy. Violations may result in termination and civil liability.
Any invention created during work hours or using Plei's equipment is a "work for hire" and belongs to the Company. If you intend to retain rights to a related invention, obtain a written waiver before developing it.
Everyone Must Follow the Plei Brand Guide
Plei's brand identity is a key part of how we communicate with our community, partners, and players. All employees and contractors are expected to review and follow the Plei Brand Guide before creating, publishing, or sharing any company-related materials, communications, designs, presentations, marketing assets, social media content, or branded collateral.
The Brand Guide covers:
- Brand voice and tone
- Logo usage — approved files and placement rules
- Colors and typography
- Photography and visual style
- Social media and marketing assets
- Approved brand applications and common usage errors
Use only approved, current brand assets. Unauthorized modifications, misuse of brand materials, or use of outdated assets are not permitted. The Brand Guide is a living document — always use the most current version. Questions? Contact the Design Team.
Personal Accounts Still Reflect on Plei
- Never share confidential information, trade secrets, or internal strategies on social media
- If you identify as a Plei employee, make clear your views are your own — not the company's
- Do not use social media for personal use during work hours without manager approval
- Do not speak to media on behalf of Plei — direct all inquiries to the Operations team
- Violations may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination
Before publishing a social media post featuring the Plei logo, what must you do?
A Safe & Respectful Workplace
Plei is committed to a workplace free from harassment, discrimination, and violence. Every team member — regardless of role or location — plays an active role in maintaining this environment.
We Don't Discriminate — Period
Plei is an equal opportunity employer. Employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, pregnancy, marital status, veteran status, genetic information, or any other protected class under federal, state, or local law.
This applies to every aspect of employment: hiring, promotion, compensation, training, and termination.
Zero Tolerance for Harassment
Plei strictly prohibits all forms of workplace harassment — including sexual harassment and any harassment based on protected class. This applies to employees, contractors, visitors, customers, and vendors.
If you experience or witness harassment or discrimination, report it immediately to HR at hr@plei.com or any member of management. Retaliation for reporting is strictly prohibited and is itself a policy violation.
Examples include: unwelcome sexual advances, offensive jokes or comments, hostile behavior based on protected characteristics, intimidating gestures, and displaying hateful symbols or materials.
Zero Tolerance Policy
Plei has a zero tolerance policy on workplace violence — including physical harm, verbal or written threats, intimidation, and any conduct that causes someone to fear for their safety. This applies on company premises and during any company business.
Report any threatening behavior to your manager or HR immediately. All reports are investigated confidentially.
Drug-Free Workplace
Being under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or any impairing substance while working or on company premises is strictly prohibited. This includes during employer-sponsored events — if alcohol is served, drink responsibly and never drive impaired.
Marijuana use is prohibited during work hours even in states where it is legal recreationally. If you take medication that may affect your performance, inform your manager before reporting to work.
Raise Concerns Early
If you have concerns about conduct, policy violations, or workplace issues, bring them to your manager first. If that's not possible, or if your manager is the source of the problem, escalate to HR at HR@plei.com or upper management. Problems are best resolved through open dialogue — don't wait.
We Support Every Team Member
Plei provides reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities, pregnancy-related conditions, and sincerely-held religious beliefs. If you need an accommodation, notify your manager or HR. The Company will engage in an interactive process to find a suitable solution.
- Report any health or safety hazards to your manager immediately
- Work-related injuries must be reported right away to preserve workers' compensation eligibility
- Smoking and vaping are prohibited on all company premises at all times
A colleague tells you they are experiencing harassment from their manager. What is the correct action?
Growth, Reviews & Moving On
Plei invests in your development. Here's how performance is evaluated, how we support growth, and what happens if employment ends — for any reason.
Two Review Cycles Per Year
| Cycle | Period | Due Date |
|---|---|---|
| Mid-Year Review | January – June | June 27 |
| End-of-Year Review | July – December | December 8 |
Reviews are two-way. Complete your self-review at least 3 days before the review meeting. Your manager will evaluate wins, areas for growth, goal progress, and development plans. A positive review does not guarantee a pay raise or continued employment.
Performance is measured on results, impact, and alignment with Plei's values. We expect accountability, initiative, quality work, proactive communication, and on-time delivery.
How Growth Works
Pay raises depend on company profitability, job performance, and market factors. Promotions are made on an equal-opportunity basis — the most qualified candidate is considered first, and internal talent is prioritized when a qualified match exists. All promoted employees go through an introductory period in their new role while retaining their current benefits.
Refer Someone, Earn a Bonus
Know someone great who'd be a fit for Plei? Submit a referral to HR@plei.com. Bonuses are paid after the new hire completes 90 days and require both parties to be on Plei payroll at time of payment.
| Role Level | Bonus (USD) |
|---|---|
| Junior | $200 |
| Mid-Level | $400 |
| Senior / Head | $500 |
Leaving Plei
If you choose to resign, provide a minimum of 2 weeks' written notice to your manager and HR@plei.com. Help ensure a smooth transition by documenting projects and handing off responsibilities. Final pay is issued on your termination date. Benefits coverage ends on the last day of the month in which employment ends.
All post-employment obligations remain in effect — including confidentiality, non-solicitation, and IP assignment as outlined in your employment or contractor agreement. Return all company property on or before your last day.
If Performance or Conduct Issues Arise
Plei generally follows a progressive discipline approach: verbal warning → written warning → probation/performance improvement plan → termination. However, the Company reserves full discretion to skip steps or terminate immediately in cases involving serious misconduct, policy violations, or legal risk.
Outside employment that creates a conflict of interest or affects your performance at Plei is prohibited. Report any such situation to your manager.
When should you submit your self-review to your manager before a performance review meeting?
